Tour wineries, visit castles, soak in mud, and eat at wonderful restaurants, Napa Valley has it all.

This cottage is in the Mt Veeder Appellation and this appellation is known for its mild weather.   Cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.   You can read more about this appellation by going to the this link which explains about the mountain.    Another link that will tell you about the wineries located on Mt Veeder, can be accessed by clicking here to see the  wineries.   Two of our local wineries within minutes of this cottage are well worth seeing.   The HESS COLLECTION has a world class collection of modern art  as well as beautiful grounds and lovely wine.   MAYACAMAS VINEYARD is a historic vineyard with a starkly spectacular setting with very special wines.  It is  available Monday through Friday by appointment only.

How about going to an Italian Castle?  This is one thing you can't miss.  It does require a reservation for the castle tour, so be sure to plan ahead.   You can call them at 707-942-8200 for a reservation, but be sure to go to click here for the Castello di Amorosa.

For a few other winery ideas, try  JARVIS WINERY which is all built in a cave and has an underground stream.   Take  a sky tram ride up to STERLING VINEYARDS for a breathtaking view of valley from the tram as well as  from their tasting room.    For another cave tour, (the constant temperature of caves, makes for better wines), try the DEL DOTTO WINERY.   You will also enjoy going to Dean and DeLucas gourmet store for picnic items and then crossing the street and going to the  SATTUI WINERY (which also has a deli), where you can picnic on their gorgeous grounds.  

A trip to Napa Valley is not complete without a mud bath and massage.  You will enjoy INDIAN SPRINGS in Calistoga which has a world class swimming pool as well as mud baths and massages. You will be driving right past St Helena, which has some wonderful shopping.  On the subject of shopping, try the Napa Outlet Center located off First ST. by Hwy 29.

For the kids or the kid in all of us, try SAFARI WEST for an educational as well as exciting look at  wild animals.  It you want to see the aquatic animal and ride some very thrilling rides, you can have fun at MARINE WORLD  in Vallejo.  You will also want to check out some of the great parks by clicking on this link.  The old faithful geyser is a thrill for people of all ages. 

 Napa is full of many fine restaurants.  You almost can't go wrong where ever you go, however a few bear an honorable mention.    Rutherford Grill a casual and fun place that specializes in tasty food and great service.  Its phone number is  963-1792 and is located right on Hwy 29.  For a cozy setting and fine Italian food, try Resaurante Allegra  which is located downtown.     Up Valley is great but buzz downtown Napa for some wonderful food that is easier on your wallet.  The best of these is described by Mike Dunn.    Tuscany is very charming and Celadon is a jewel;  Stop at Alexis Baking Company for their baked goodies and you won't be sorry. 

At the end of the day, return your vacation rental cottage and relax in your private retreat.
